This famous Dan Cong Oolong is not only famous for its delightful flavour and rich aroma, but also for its … interesting… name. Roughly translated, duck shit oolong! Its not so named because that is the aroma of the tea, rather where the tea first emerged, the fields where the plants grew were naturally fertalize by the farmers ducks.
The dry leaf has a sumptuous yet gentle sweet floral note. Something like honey and gardenia. Yum! The golden liquor focuses the dry leaf aroma further and we start getting hints of gardenia floral. The sip hits us with a silky mouthfeel and starts out with an almost malty note and as the infusions progress the floral notes emerge, with a delicate underlying sweetness and just enough zip to make the whole sip very exciting!
Do not forget to smell the gaiwan lid as fequently as possible! Don’t let the ‘Duck Shit Oolong’ moniker put you off, the floral notes are magical. Just close your eyes and absorb the aroma!
