Embark on a journey of flavor and texture as this White Tea made from Pu’er leads you from the garden into the jungle (cue G’n’R here)! This tea’s pressing is notably tight, so our first infusion was a light light, but don’t let that fool you. Even with a delicate start, you can taste the sweet muscatel notes, with a unique yet subtle undertone of sharp plum.
As we continued, the tea deepened in color, transforming from a clear bright gold to a richer hue with each infusion. This shift in color marked the unfolding of flavors, starting with the fresh and fragrant white tea profile in the foreground with the jungle-like elements in the background and slowly pivoting, neither once acquescing, but simply changing positions. The aroma and taste began with a predominance of white tea, notes of stone fruit, and a hint of peony, while the plum undertone remained in the background, gently enhancing the second infusion.
With further steepings, the white tea’s softness persisted, but there was a clear pivot toward a more pronounced, jungle-inspired plum character as the pu’er cultivar revealed its strength and depth. This shift brought a richness that balanced beautifully with the tea’s initial delicacy, adding layers of dry plum that lingered in the background.
The mouthfeel from start to finish was exceptionally round and soft, creating a smooth, almost silky sensation in the mouth. Be sure to exhale over a sip to fully experience the stone fruit aroma—it’s a delightful treat that will emphasize the transition from the garden to the wilds.
