We’re excited to have Jiu Qu Hong Mei back in our line up. It’s been a while since I had this tea, so I was initially surprised how smooth and relatively ‘dry’ it was, with hints of nuttiness reminiscent of our Guan Yin Hong. Made from the same cultivar as Long Jing, Jiu Qu Hong Mei delivers an incredibly smooth mouth feel, with hints of sweetness and dark chocolate, this tea rendered many delicious infusions with the sweetness presenting a slight crescendo towards the later infusions.

The description is on point: this is a dry, nutty-leaning black tea with just a tiny hint of sweetness and chocolate flavours. I like it more than the extremely nutty Tao Hua Hong; the sweetness balances it more. It’s not a knock-your-socks-off tea, but it isn’t priced like one, either, and it’s a good choice for people who prefer black teas that lean into this flavour profile. Personally, I’ve found I’m more of a bud-heavy person, so I’ll be purchasing more of Zhen Tea’s fruity Dian Hong whenever it’s finally back in stock.
