This Moonlight White Tea is not only delicious when brewed, but the dry leaf is also visually stunning. The fuzz is a glistening bright white and the leaves are nearly monochrome, white on one side, and black on the other. Grown in Guangdong Province, Yue Guang Bai is made from old bushes from the Deqing area, using a bai mu dan plucking standard (one bud and one or two leaves), and finished using the Yue Guang Bai (moonlight white process) process (A Yunnan white tea usually produced in Jinggu area).
Aside from the beautiful appearance of the dry leaf, it also teases the nose with a nutty creamy aroma, almost reminiscent of vanilla. The pale-yellow liquor that it renders echo’s the nutty sweetness and the first sips will hit you with an instant sweetness that starts out as nutty and gradually evolves toward a snow-pea like sweetness as you glide through the infusions. The tea broth is thick and full-bodied, and while the tea is sweet throughout the experience, there is a hint of umami that underpin’s the whole session, giving it depth. Take your time between sips to taste the evolution of the hui gan (returning sweetness). This tea is a stunner.
